It can be really hard connecting. Most people just don't get it. Don't you hate to see someone who looked hot eat a steak or burger or bbq? What a let down. How can you kiss someone who just had a mouthful of dead cow? Gag time! So what's next - how do you reach out? Well, if you're truly willing to reach out with your heart and soul try an online service like Green Singles or Veggie Date. There are plenty of vegans on each, and online dating is a smart way both to pre-screen potential dates and also to meet a lot of really interesting people that you would have never otherwise have known. |

Settling In For The Winter? NO WAY! If you look at the schedules for AMP in Fayetteville or Alltel Arena in Little Rock you might think music hiberanates. Luckily for the rest of us there are plenty of other venues where we can catch live music all year. Juanitas continue to pull in a variety of great acts; you can see Veruca Salt this month and be sure to see Adam Freeland next month (his song We Want Your Soul has been in almost constant rotation at the Arkansas Vegan secret lair). Sticky Fingerz also have some good acts booked but never seem to be able to attract the same level of talent as Juanitas. They also won't let you see next month's calendar, which is kind of a drag. You can catch some good shows at Dave's On Dickson and even The Gypsy, but like our grandparents they're not online so who knows what's playing there. J.R.'s Lightbulb Club has some fun shows. Native Music Everyone knows Johnny Cash, Al Green, Scott Joplin, and Glen Campbell were born here, and more recently the members of Evanesence, but Arkansas has an amazing music history that goes far beyond those acts. Old State House Museum has some great material online, and the voluminous Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture currently has over 140 entries regarding music and is still growing! You can listen online or on the air to a variety of native Arkansas sounds at UALR's Arkansongs. |

Let's face it - vegans know all about love. Heck, doctors have even proven it. When you're cooking that special dinner for that special someone tonight why not crank it up a notch with some special vegan aphrodisiacs? |

Looking For Local Talent We tend to be a creative bunch, and there are plenty of vegan musicians out there; notable ones include Andre 3000 (of Outkast), Moby, and Paul McCartney shown above. On a recent trip to two restautrants in another city our waiter and waitress were each vegan musicians working between show dates! I guess that's the price you pay until you land that monster record deal. If you're a vegan performer let us know! |

Moby No Longer Busing Tables Teany, the tearoom and organic cafe started by Moby and his (then) girlfriend Kelly Tisdale is going strong, and definitely should be on your places to visit in NYC list... just don't expect to see Moby cleaning up behind patrons anymore. The millionaire sold his stake in the business to Kelly, who now happily retains 100% creative control over the restaurant and shop. "Creative differences" always seem to be an issue, don't they? The Boston Globe has the story... |

Local vegan musicians include Disjoint, a Hot Springs band that describes their sound as metal, experimental, and psychedelic. Guitarist Wyatt tells us "I have been a music lover my entire life. Everything from classical to jazz to hardcore punk to heavy metal. But I am really into a genre refered to as math-core (math derived technical heavy punk metal, does that sound good?). There is a band called 'The Dillinger Escape Plan', and their bassist is vegan and a member of PETA. Another band 'Coverge' (also hardcore type music), their vocalist is vegetarian. I myself am in a band from Hot Springs called 'Disjoint'and 4 out of 6 of our members are vegan and 1 is vegetarian." Their symphonic backgrounds bring a unique edge to their metal; keep your ear open for Disjoint on your favorite station. |

Here At The Center Of The Universe One of the Arkansas Vegan team is an ex-DJ so we have a pretty wide variety of aural sensations to choose from. Recently we've been spinning mostly retro British punk and balancing that out with Latin guitar. Your recommendations are welcomed! What are your vegan ears listening to? |
