Peace, Justice, Ecology, and Vegetarianism

Donna tells us that the OMNI Center for Peace, Justice, and Ecology plans a celebration for World Vegetarian Day. She notes that "October 1st is World Vegetarian Day and we want to have a big deal around it to raise awareness about the importance of Veganism and Vegetarianism for world peace
and ecology...(not just health, which it is also good for). We are ordering hand outs created by the World Vege Day folks, We want to have a BIG potluck prior to the Open Mic, and then we are also hosting a songwriting contest for that eve. Artists are encouraged to write songs on the theme of Vegetarianism and the winner will get to record it for our next OMNI Environmental CD project." For more information you can contact Donna or visit the OMNI Center's web site.

Don't forget that if you would like the chance to speak out in a public forum, the OMNI Center has Open Mic Night for Peace, Justice and Ecology the first Sunday of every month.

Love to cook? Love to talk to people one-on-one rather than to a crowd? Consider vounteering at the event. What a great chance to be a vegan ambassador! Contact Donna for details.

Dr. Neal Barnard, President of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine explains the science behind why some non-vegan foods are difficult to give up - and yes, there's much more to it than you think. Vegsource put this great video online that shows "chocolate, cheese, meat, and sugar release opiate-like substances. Dr. Barnard also discusses how industry, aided by government, exploits these natural cravings, pushing us to eat more and more unhealthy foods." Watch the video here.
