Rob says "Lilly's is consistently great. They'll veganize several things on the menu and it's all good. I especially enjoy their cold sesame noodles or yasai korroke to start, then the Hong Kong Tofu. Don't forget the homemade mango sorbet for dessert!!!!! If you enjoy good wines the list here is brief but exceptionally well chosen. Lilly's is THE place in Little Rock for the gourmet vegan, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are affordable."

Rob says "To my knowledge From The Garden is the only 100% vegan soul food restauant in the state. When was the last time you were able to eat out and order country fried steak, collards, corn pones, and sweet potato pie, knowing everything was vegan?? We love this place - in fact the last time we went we ordered one of everything on the menu, took it all to a park and shared a huge vegan feast! We even had From The Garden do our wedding cake (see picture). Bottom layer coconut, middle layer carrot, top layer lemon, all layers good!"

Rob says "This is the only place I know of that actually specifies which food items are vegan on its website and even mentions the word "vegan" in its phone book listing! (Oddly though there were no vegan notations on the menu, so you may want to visit their site and make up your mind before going, or just ask when you get there). Great ethnic food from Brazil. Very hearty and tasty food served in a warm and inviting atmosphere by friendly people - well worth a visit. The owner supports a number of humanitarian and artistic causes too."

Rob says "They have nine things listed on the menu as vegetarian that they say are in fact vegan. Their rice isn't cooked in chicken stock. The veggie lettuce wraps appetizer is great and the coconut curry entree is too. Good place to go with non-vegans because there's something for everyone - as long as they like Chinese. A very nice, very stylish place. Hey vegan singles, this is the dinner portion of your dinner and a movie!"

Rob says "Great funky atmosphere, but the staff are sometimes too busy being cool to bother to help you. They have soy milk, but not rice milk which is much better in coffee and tea both. Their vegan appetizer is homemade salsa and chips. For lunch do a vegetarian salad without cheese or a Weedeater Wrap (ya gotta love that name!). The wrap has to be ordered without cheese and possibly without the side of Cattlemen's sauce, depending on which Cattlemen's variety they are using. They do have Margarita Melt and Veggie Melt sandwiches which could be ordered without cheese or pesto; maybe they'd substitute some avocado and Italian dressing before grilling. Does anyone know if all the ingredients are vegan in the crust and tomato sauce used on their calzones and pizzas?"

The Garden Po' Boy, the Portobello Wrapini, and the Spinach Veggie Wrap are usually vegan, but their corporate office allows each location some leeway when choosing ingredients so be sure to ask before ordering.

You can make any of the burritos, fajitas, salads, and tacos vegan by leaving out the cheese and substituting tofu for the meat. Yes, they have grilled tofu! Be sure to specify that you want a vegan tortilla.
Taco Bell, multiple locations
Lots of options here by making simple substitutions; just ask for your item without meat, sour cream, or cheese. For example, the seven layer burritos, nachos, tacos, or Mexican pizzas can be made vegan by ordering without meat, sour cream and cheese. It's hard to beat Taco Bell for a cheap way to fill up; just get a handful of their bean burritos without cheese. Special hint: tell them that you want your items "fresco." That is their special notation to replace sauce or cheese with diced tomatoes, onion and cilantro. Don't forget a load of "fire" sauce packets!
Wendy's, multiple locations
An unusual option here: order a Veggie Sandwich, which is their burger without the meat. Better specify no mayo or cheese. Their Deluxe Salad is vegan when ordered without cheese; be sure to specify that you want the Red Italian Dressing. Wendy's fries are vegan, and we can also do a plain baked potato here.
* One of the Arkansas Vegan crew is a real potato head and could eat baked potatoes all day, but warns that a plain ol' dry baked potato can be pretty hard to swallow. Wendys don't offer vegan margarine, Bacos, or sour cream substitute, so you might want to ask for some of that Red Italian Dressing to help this down.
Subway, multiple locations
The sub sandwich makers battle back and forth for the tastiest vegan veggie sub; here at Arkansas Vegan we feel like Subway has the lead right now. Order their Veggie Delite on Italian bread and load it up with your favorite stuff. We generally ask for them to substitute avocado for cheese, which does make a big difference.

We're happy to report that now Baskin Robbins has vegan dairy-free and gelatin-free ices and sorbets, so the fun can continue! This is another place that has baked potatoes, but again you'll have to ask for some Italian dressing on the side to help it down. A big bonus at Arby's is that their apple and cherry turnovers are vegan!!!
