Poor Excuse: Cardiologists Not Offering Life-Saving Advice Because They Assume Patients Won't Comply
We happen to believe that doctors are paid to tell us the news, good or bad, that we need to hear - whether we want to hear it or not. Unfortunately a study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine found otherwise. "A new survey of cardiologists found that although many knew about the potential life-saving effects of low-fat vegetarian diets for their heart patients, most did not recommend them on the belief that their patients would not comply. However, studies have shown that most patients on such diets rate them very positively and experience benefits beyond those of more modest diets. Among the respondents, 82 percent said they routinely ordered dietary changes for their patients and 91 percent cited being "somewhat familiar" or "very familiar" with research supporting the use of very low-fat cardiac diets. However, 63 percent of the cardiologists said they never order or recommend this diet and 23 percent said they only sometimes order or recommend it to their patients." Read more here... |

GOT HYPE? Calcium and Vitamin D May Not Provide The Benefits Once Thought
More medical evidence that what we have traditionally accepted as science is in fact just marketing. Trial results published February 16 in the New England Journal of Medicine indicate that calcium and vitamin D supplemenents provide little defense against broken bones in postmenopausal women. The conclusion: Among healthy postmenopausal women, calcium with vitamin D supplementation resulted in a small but significant improvement in hip bone density, did not significantly reduce hip fracture, and increased the risk of kidney stones. The study results... |

Who Is Healthier?
The times, they are a'changin'. Compare the past year's stock performances of Arkansas's own Tyson Foods, the country's biggest meat packer, and Wild Oats Markets, one of the nation's largest natural foods retailers and for years a primary source of vegan goods in Arkansas: Looks like one company's arteries are clogging up.
